About the Topic:
Katheryn Bradley and Craig Day of Lane Powell PC will answer some common questions that they receive from startups during early stages, including:
· Can we promise equity in exchange for services since we cannot afford to pay salaries?
· Our options are underwater, can we just trade them for new options or restricted stock?
· Isn’t it a good idea to hire consultants as independent contractors?
· Must we pay $15 per hour to workers in Seattle?
· Can founders be held liable personally for failing to pay wages?
· Are we required to provide vacation, sick time and health benefits?
· Can we just reimburse our employees if they buy health coverage through the state?
· Why should we use offer letters or employment agreements since Washington is an at-will state?
· Why would we need an employee handbook since we’re so small?
· Our consultant is not a good fit, and we need to part ways. Can you send a boilerplate release?
